Foraging in a City Yard
Don’t weed your yard; Munch your way through it!
Edible weeds can thrive in an urban landscape, providing highly nutritious, delicious, easy to prepare, and free greens for your dining pleasure.
Wild greens are not only convenient and edible, but their blossoms provide food for pollinators, homes for beneficial insects, filtered sunlight for tender plants, and deep roots to loosen soil for better absorption and increased worm populations.
As my own family has moved around the country, I have discovered many edible weeds, researched recipes, and incorporated them into our meals.
We will prepare and sample a variety of delicious “weed” recipes suitable for meals and treats. Based on my book “Foraging in a City Yard” with information on identification, harvesting and cooking with 26 common edible weeds, many of which grow locally.
Wild greens contain more nutrients and flavor than traditional garden greens, and they are free!
